Paradigm’s Revolutionary SUB 2 Subwoofer

All Star Audio Video - Paradigm SUB 2- SubwooferSince subwoofers became widely popular in the 70’s, they have evolved to the point where they are definitely considered to be the most significant advancement in home audio in the last several decades.  Are you looking to upgrade the sound of your current home theater sound system?   There are a number of high-end subwoofers on the market today, ranging in price from $2000 to the $13,000 Thigpen Rotary Woofer.  Sitting at the upper-end of the price spectrum is Paradigm’s SUB 2 – an amazing hexagonal beast of a subwoofer that will delight anyone looking for the best-of-the best sound quality!

It seems that the Paradigm’s engineering team was given the chance to build a revolutionary subwoofer with no cost, form factor, or material limitations to hold them back.  In essence, the engineers were given the unique opportunity to develop their dream subwoofer.  The Paradigm SUB 2 was designed with many state-of-the-art components and the engineers developed a cabinet/driver configuration that ensures sub 15-Hz bass levels and amazingly low distortion.

Such an opportunity allows a chance to consider many possibilities.  In the end, the design team created a behemoth that weighs 230 pounds.   The SUB2 hexagon design is unique with three pairs of 10-inch woofers that provide sound 120 degrees apart in a circle.  No matter how hard the drivers are pushed, this heavyweight driver is a completely stable piece of equipment does not move or shake.  In fact, one of the biggest advantages of the SUB 2’s clustered driver arrangements is its vibration canceling characteristics; the matched, opposing drivers do a great job of canceling out unwanted resonances and distortions.  This exclusive Paradigm design completely energizes a room at with low, clean frequencies.  Can you imagine that in your own home theater?

Powering all of the drivers together is an amplifier that is certainly not conventional.  In fact, this custom amplifier requires 240V to maximize its complete potential – an astonishing 9000W peak output and a 4500W average output.  With a 120V line, it delivers 3000 RMS.  This amplifier is truly an extraordinary piece of engineering, highlighting Paradigm’s “Ultra-Class-D” amplification.  This amplifier has a transformer-less design that uses a PFC (Power Factor Corrected) power supply, a sophisticated energy reserve/power supply that is 95% efficient.  This is a pretty amazing amplifier, no matter what voltage option you choose.

Included in the amplifier is an integrated, factory programmed DSP (digital signal processing) with enough memory to accept filters from the Paradigm’s Perfect Bass Kit (PBK).  The PBK is an exceptional product that makes calibrating the subwoofer extremely easy.  Even folks who don’t have much technical experience can work through the software guide with no difficulty at all.  The only equipment required is a laptop with two available USB ports.  Once the software guide is installed on a laptop and the included microphone is connected to the laptop via a USB cable, another USB cable is connected from the laptop to the back of the subwoofer.  The installed software provides all the steps needed to ensure several sweeps occur before a set of correction filters is created and then uploaded to the subwoofer’s DSP.

There are many subwoofers on the market today and making a choice may be challenging.  If highest quality sound is important to you, you will be delighted with a Paradigm’s SUB 2 subwoofer as part of your home theater sound system.  With such attention to all aspects of sound quality and delivery, Paradigm has certainly raised the bar with a stylish, top-of-the-line, high-end product. The Paradigm engineers have raised the bar for home theater entertainment with the revolutionary SUB 2 subwoofer.
